I knew nothing about it, so she took me along to the tower where she rang and I was hooked as soon as I tried it. Everyone has been so helpful, generously giving their time and expertise to help me learn. I’ve met lots of new people and ringing is great for keeping the mind and body active.

I did learn the ropes of bell ringing, manage to control the bells and have gone through the initial stages of call changes and simple methods. I learnt to ring for my Duke of Edinburgh's Award in the 1970's, although I've rung spasmodically since then. As soon as I heard the Holmfirth was active I popped along and was made to feel very welcome. Ringing is a bit like riding a bicycle, once you've learnt, you never really forget.
Both my parents and maternal grandfather were bell ringers at St. Bartholomew's, Meltham, where I learned to ring over 60 years ago at the age of 10. Despite two quite long breaks from ringing due to work and other commitments, it is true to say that I have had a lifetime association with bells.
I heard the bells ringing one day and loved the sound. After reading the info on the website, I emailed to see if someone with zero experience could get involved. I was invited to go along to their next practice session, and I liked what I heard and saw. Everyone has been welcoming and really helpful and Alan is a great teacher (and v

As a result, I’m gradually making progress and its great having a new challenge.
